Interoperability Is Critical For Pediatric Care

When we speak about the integration of data between systems in the Healthcare arena we usually focus on large health systems where a lot of patients received care from. But we never talk about the small healthcare organizations that have the need to provide critical care for the future generation of tomorrow. Pediatric Care is a critical and the need for pediatricians to understand and received all data for these patients is needed to make good clinical decisions on the health of these little patients.

Pediatric Care Needs

The wellbeing of the next generation is key for our economy and the health of our society. Pediatricians need the ability to provide quality care, accurate and immediate diagnoses and to prescribe the correct medications. Someone may say the interoperability is difficult but it is very simple and important and helps pediatricians have a complete and accurate history of these little patients history at their finger tips and at the point of care.

A study was done https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6702215/ that reviews the importance of interoperability and how medical data is still being hidden in isolated databases, incompatible systems and proprietary software making it hard to integrate and get the data these providers need to make the best clinical decisions

Results Of Pediatric Data Being Shared

More and more pediatric facilities are adopting an EHR systems which makes it better effective to maintain patients health data and to integrate with others. Turning on these integrations within the EHR allows providers to view patients chart of data before they come in where the provider can now be fully prepare for the visit and have the right questions to ask and be ready to go. Having an EHR provides the ability to use standard message formats like HL7v2 and CCDA to send and receive data from other healthcare facilities like Urgent Care and Children's Hospitals. Even though EHR adoption is up there is still a need to activate those interfaces and work with other facilities to start sharing data
